Back Review of Liam Black event on 24th September
On 24th September, the IIBN enjoyed a private evening with Liam Black, CEO, The Fifteen Foundation at Browns Restaurant and Bar on St Martins Lane, Covent Garden, London to a group in excess of 100.
Second generation Irish - Liam spoke passionately about his own Irish heritage which included social and charitable work in apartheid ridden South Africa and a fleeting dalliance with the priesthood. During his 40 minute presentation Liam also took us through the challenges he and his colleagues face in the world of social enterprise.
Liam's past ventures included turning the Furniture Resource Centre Group from a small charity supplying second-hand furniture to council tenants into a £7m business group giving work to hundreds of unemployed people and providing services to thousands of low-income families. He also successfully established The Cat's Pyjamas to connect social enterprises globally and is the author of There's No Business Like Social Business.
"Worth it? Definitely. Fifteen could easily excuse small failings in respect of its charitable aims - all profits go into training underprivileged apprentices. In reality it doesn't need to excuse anything. The food was perfect, the service friendly and super-efficient?. Olive Magazine April 2007.
What Fifteen believes in:
Customer first
Product with a purpose
Everyone has huge potential
Your past need not define your future
Make it fun or go home
